Aterra is an ecological campsite on the Southwest coast of Alentejo, Portugal. We offer guests a unique ‘glamping’ experience in a rustic, yet very comfortable and beautiful, family friendly environment. We invite you to stay in romantic Rajasthani tents, stunning yurts or auspicious tipis, beside a large freshwater lake. Aterra is a secluded, peaceful site in a valley surrounded by woodlands, fruit trees and grasslands.
Aterra is a sustainable tourism which aims to bring people back together and in contact with the earth. We always work with nature, planting trees and aiming to increase plant diversity. We practice permaculture ethics, enhancing natures way and growing our own are own vegetables, fruit and nuts. We also have a small farm with a variety of animals. Our water and waste management systems use simple technology, composting and recycling our waste with very little consumption of energy. We are sustainable in our size, maintaining a maximum of 35 people, not crowding or exhausting the land and resources. All of our buildings are made with natural or recycled materials such as earth, wood, stone and tyres. Aterra aims to show people how it is possible to live ecologically and sustainably yet with comfort.
Our Aterra team is like one big family. We have a collection of young and talented people from all over the world.
Aterra has its own kitchen and chef offering home-made, locally produced delicious food. We have a kids playground and a large freshwater lake with a private beach. We offer activities such kayaking, cycling, hiking, horse riding, yoga and massage. We have our own shop selling locally handmade goods.
